Economic Development:
In the mid 1980s, through a public/private partnership, the leadership in Fulton County undertook the steps necessary to provide the very best industrial environment to position itself to attract and retain businesses. The County's commitment to maintaining a pro-business attitude culminated in the development of the Fulton County Economic Development Corporation and some of the finest industrial park facilities in the region. There are more than 200 acres of fully developed sites. They feature heavy duty road networks, municipal water and sewer facilities, natural gas and electric services, millions of gallons of fresh, clean water, and fiber optic telecommunications. Fulton County has one of only six state-of-the-art sanitary landfills in New York State. Fulton County is accessed by two major interstate systems. The majority of Interstate 90, the New York State Thruway, runs east and west from Albany to Buffalo and Albany to Boston and is just five miles from the county's industrial parks. Interstate 87 is the north/south connection running between New York City and Montreal. There is a passenger and freight rail service fifteen minutes away. The New York State Barge Canal System and Port of Albany allow for both oceangoing and Great Lakes water transport, while the Albany County International Airport offers national and international connections. Fulton County has a corporate airport, as well as a United Parcel Service (UPS) distribution center. These industrial parks were developed with a capital investment of $4 million. Since 1988 the return on that capital investment has grown over ten times. Fulton County has become home to companies such as Benjamin Moore Paints, Electro-Metrics, Pioneer Window Manufacturing, SWANY America, Top-Flite Golf Company, Wal-Mart Distribution Center, Euphrates Cheese Co., Epimed International, Exel, Vopak Chemicals, Falk Industries. Most importantly, that investment has contributed directly to the development of almost 1500 new jobs for Fulton County. 2004 will bring the construction of a new masonry and glass office building with state-of-the-art "Class A" office space. This beautifully landscaped park is an ideal location for a high-tech start-up operation or research and development facility. The intelligent infrastructure will be fully wired with high speed data connections and spaces will run from 500-10,000 square feet. Our labor pool has an abundance of workers possessing skills in a variety of technical fields. Many firms with nationally recognized names chose to locate in Fulton County because the workers adhere to the old adage, "an honest day's work for an honest day's wages." The Fulton County Economic Development Corporation with the New York State Empire Zone, Foreign Trade Zone, industrial/business sites, financial packaging, turn-key delivery of facilities, and workforce coordination stands poised and ready to assist any business. Virtually every element affecting site location decisions has been addressed in Fulton County at the community level.
